Am I suitable for a Liposuction procedure?

Liposuction is suitable for any man or woman who is near or at their ideal body weight, but are suffering from stubborn pockets of fat located in certain areas of the body. They may have followed a stringent diet and exercise routine for many years, but find it impossible to shift these fat deposits, particularly as they get older.

Liposuction can target this fat tissue on the cheeks, neck, chin, arms, breasts, stomach, flanks, buttocks, hips and thighs. It is not a weight loss method, but should be viewed as a body reshaping procedure.

Furthermore, if you have lost a lot of weight and been left with a large degree of sagging skin, then you may need to undergo a surgical procedure to remove this skin. However, Dr Roger Amar can advise you in your London liposuction consultation which is your best option.

Dr Amar has many years’ experience in liposuction and has developed a technique that is very safe and simple, but produces fantastic results. His mentors in developing this technique are the leading proponents in this procedure; Dr Illouz, the originator of liposuction, and Dr Jeff Klein, who invented the tumescent liposuction technique in the 1980s.

What can I expect during my Liposuction procedure?

Your liposuction procedure will usually be performed under local anaesthesia, combined with deep sedation, to ensure the most comfortable experience for the patient.

Dr Roger Amar uses the tumescent liposuction technique. Large volumes of saline combined with local anaesthetic is injected into the targeted tissue, meaning less damage to the tissue and less potential blood loss. A cannula connected to a vacuum machine is inserted and the fat removed. The use of local anaesthetic makes the procedure much more safe for the patient. This is all performed through tiny incisions so scarring is minimal.

Are there any possible complications associated with Liposuction?

Side effect of tumescent liposuction performed under local anaesthetic are minimal and rare. There will be bruising and swelling which can take a while to dissipate totally. Scarring is minimal as Dr Roger Amar only makes very tiny incisions. There may be some numbness in the treated area, but this usually recovers as the nerves heal.

The chance of excessive bleeding is much lower with tumescent liposuction than conventional liposuction since we use high dosages of vaso-constrictors. As with all surgical procedures, there is a possible risk of infection, but you will be closely monitored and antibiotics used if necessary.

Sometimes, a repeat procedure may be necessary to correct slightly uneven results, but this is very rare. All possible complications will be discussed in full at your London Liposuction consultation.
